ASQP: Definitions of Variables

The following definitions define the fields in Airline Service Quality Performance (ASQP) reports:
- % of Total Cancellations (Rain, Mist, Fog, Freezing, TS, Snow). Percentages of cancellations occurring during periods of specified weather conditions.
- % of Total Cancellations (Wind, Ceiling, Visibility, Nearby TS, Local Weather). Percentages of cancellations occurring during periods of specified weather conditions.
- % On-Time Gate Arrivals. Percent of flights that arrived at the gate less than 15 minutes past the CRS scheduled gate-in time.
- % On-Time Gate Departures. Percent of flights that departed within 15 minutes past the CRS scheduled gate-out time.
- Actual Arrivals. Number of flights that arrived on a given date to a selected airport.
- Actual Change (Cancellations, Wind, Ceiling, Visibility, Nearby TS, Local Weather). Difference in the number of cancellations and cancellations occurring in specified weather conditions between two time periods.
- Actual Change (Scheduled Departures/Arrivals, Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Total). Difference in the number of cancellations, causes of cancellation, and scheduled operations between two time periods.
- Actual Departures. Number of flights that departed on a given date from a selected airport.
- Actual Gate In. The time an aircraft arrived at the gate.
- Actual Gate Out. The time an aircraft departed from the gate. If the aircraft pulled out and then returned to the gate before departing, the Actual Gate Out time is the last gate out time.
- Actual Wheels Off. The time an aircraft departed from the runway.
- Actual Wheels On. The actual time an aircraft landed on the runway.
- Airborne Time. The elapsed time computed from the moment the aircraft leaves the ground (Wheels-Off Time) until it touches down (Wheels-On Time) at the next point of landing.
- Arrival Airport. Three-letter code indicating the airport of arrival.
- Arrival Airport. Three- or four-letter code identifying the arrival airport.
- Arrival Cancellations. Number of cancelled arrivals.
- Arrival Diversions. Number of arriving flights diverted from their originally scheduled arrival airport.
- Arrival Time (Scheduled, Actual). Time of arrival of a flight, both scheduled and actual.
- ASPM Flights. In the Airport view, filter options restricting results to ASPM flights.
- ASQP Cause (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security). ASQP cause of cancellation. See also Types of Delay.
- ASQP Causes (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Total). In the Departure Cancellations Report , the number of cancelled departures (or arrivals) sorted into ASQP causes of delay. See also Types of Delay.
- ASQP Flights. In the Airport view, filter options restricting results to ASQP flights.
- Average Block Delay. The difference between Actual Gate-To-Gate time and Scheduled Gate-To-Gate, in minutes.
- Average Delay Per Delayed Arrival. The average minutes of delay for flights with a Gate In Time 15 minutes or more later than the scheduled Gate In Time.
- Average Gate Arrival Delay. The total minutes of gate arrival delay, divided by the total number of arrivals. Late arrivals are derived from the difference between the Actual Gate In Time and the CRS Scheduled Gate In Time.
- Average Gate Departure Delay. The total minutes of gate departure delay, divided by total number of departures. Late departures are derived from the difference between the Actual Gate Out time and the CRS Scheduled Gate Out time.
- Average Taxi In Time. The difference between Actual Wheels on time and Actual Gate in time, in minutes.
- Average Taxi Out Time. The difference between Actual Gate Out time and Actual Wheels Off time, in minutes.
- Block Delay. The difference between Actual Block Time and Scheduled Block Time, in minutes.
- Block Time (Scheduled, Actual). Scheduled Block Time is the difference between Schedule Gate In and Scheduled Gate Out, in minutes. Actual Block Time is the difference between Actual Gate In and Actual Gate Out, in minutes.
- Cancellation Causes (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security). Number of cancelled flights sorted by cause of cancellation. See Types of Delay.
- Cancellation NAS Causes (Counts). Number of cancellations due to NAS causes.
- Cancellation NAS Causes (Percent). Percentages of cancellations due to NAS causes.
- Cancellation NAS Causes. Number of cancellations attributable to the national aviation system (NAS) due to a broad set of conditions, such as non-extreme weather conditions, airport operations, heavy traffic volume, and air traffic control.
- Cancellations (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Late arrival). Number of cancelled flights sorted by cause of cancellation. See Types of Delay.
- Cancellations (Causes Reported, Total Cancelled, Difference). Number of cancelled flights whose cause of cancellation was reported by the carrier, total number of cancelled flights, and different between the two variables.
- Cancellations with Moderate/Severe ASPM Weather (Wind, Ceiling, Visibility, Nearby TS, Local Weather). Number of cancellations occurring during periods of specified weather conditions.
- Cancellations with Moderate/Severe Local Weather (Rain, Mist, Fog, Freezing, TS, Snow). Number of cancellations occurring during periods of specified weather conditions.
- Cancellations. Number of cancelled flights at a selected airport or group or airport.
- Carrier Cause and Prorated Late Arrival (Flights, Percent). The number and percentage of flight that would have been on time if flights with a carrier cause and late arriving flights allocated to Carrier were the only causes of delay. Late arriving flights are proportionally distributed across the other four ASQP delay causes: Carrier, NAS, Security, and Extreme Weather. See Types of Delay.
- Carrier Code. Two- or three-letter code identifying the carrier. See ASQP: Carrier Codes and Names for a list of the ASQP carriers and their corresponding codes.
- Category (Weather, Volume, Equipment, Runway, Other, No Match, Total). Category of OPSNET Delay. See Delays.
- Cause as a % of Total (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security). Percentages of cancelled departures (or arrivals) due to each ASQP causes of delay. See also Types of Delay.
- Cause as a % Scheduled Arrivals (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Total). Percentage of total arrivals cancelled due to specific ASQP cause of delay. See also Types of Delay.
- Cause as a % Scheduled Departures (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Total). Percentage of total departures cancelled due to specific ASQP cause of delay. See also Types of Delay.
- Delay After Gate Departure (≥15). Number of flights delayed 15 minutes or more after gate departure.
- Delay Causes (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Late Arrival Flight, Sum Of Causes). Number, minutes, or percentage of delay according to cause of delay. See Types of Delay.
- Delay NAS Causes. Delays and cancellations attributable to the national aviation system (NAS) due to a broad set of conditions, such as non-extreme weather conditions, airport operations, heavy traffic volume, and air traffic control.
- Delayed Arrivals. Number of flights with a Gate In Time delayed 15 minutes or more compared to the schedule Gate In Time.
- Delayed Flights (Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Late Arrival Flight, Total). Number of delayed flights per cause of delay. See Types of Delay.
- Departure Airport. Three-letter code indicating the airport of departure.
- Departure Airport. Three- or four-letter code identifying the departure airport.
- Departure Cancellations. Number of cancelled departures.
- Departure Diversions. Number of flights departing from a given airport that were later diverted to an arrival airport other than the scheduled arrival airport.
- Departure Time (Scheduled, Actual). Time of departure, both scheduled and actual.
- Extreme Weather As The Only Factor (Flights, Percent). Number and percentage of flights that would have been on time if extreme weather were the only cause of delay. See Types of Delay.
- Flight Number. The number identifying the flight as assigned by the air carrier. Permissible values: 1–9999.
- Flights (Cancelled, Diverted, On-Time, Delayed). Number of flights that were cancelled, diverted, on-time, or delayed. Variable can also be expressed as a percent.
- Flights Require Validation. Flights requiring validation due to inconsistencies between OPSNET reported delays and ASQP reported NAS delays.
- Gate Arrival Delay. The difference between the Actual Gate In time and the Schedule Gate In time, in minutes.
- Gate Departure Delay. The count of the flights departing, when the Actual Gate Out time compared to the Schedule Gate Out time is equal or greater than 1 hour.
- Gate Departure Delay<6. Number of flights with a Gate Departure Delay of 6 minutes or less.
- NAS Cause and Prorated Late Arrival (Flights, Percent). The number and percentage of flights that would have been on time if flights with a NAS cause and late arriving flights allocated to NAS were the only causes of delay. Late arriving flights are proportionally distributed across the other four ASQP delay causes: Carrier, NAS, Security, and Extreme Weather. This field is also referred to as "NAS On Time". Also see Types of Delay.
- NAS Cause As The Only Factor (Flights, Percent). Number and percentage of flights that would have been on time if NAS was the only cause of delay. See Types of Delay.
- NAS Cause. In the City Pair view, filter option restricting results to specific cause of NAS Delay: Any, No, Yes, Yes: Weather > 0, Yes: Volume > 0, Yes: Equipment > 0, Yes: Runway > 0, Yes: Other > 0, Yes: No Match, Yes: No Match/NAS < 15, Yes: No Match/Delay After Gate Departure, Yes: No Match/Gate Departure Delay < 6, Yes: No Match/Other Carrier NAS, Yes: No Match/Other Carrier Non-NAS, Yes: No Match/Other Carrier No Delay, Yes: No Match/Require Validation, Yes: NAS > 15.
- NAS Delays Requiring Validation. Percentage of NAS delays requiring validation due to inconsistencies between OPSNET reported delays and ASQP reported NAS delays.
- NAS<15. Number of flights delayed 15 minutes or less by NAS causes of delay.
- No Match. Number of flights with a carrier-reported delay that was not matched by OPSNET data.
- On-Time Arrivals. The number of flights arriving on or before 15 minutes of the scheduled time shown in the carriers' Computerized Reservations Systems (CRS).
- OPSNET Cause. Minutes of delay to Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) traffic of 15 minutes or more, experienced by individual flights, which result from the ATC system detaining an aircraft at the gate, short of the runway, on the runway, on a taxiway, and/or in a holding configuration anywhere en route. See Types of Delay.
- Percent Change (Cancellations, Wind, Ceiling, Visibility, Nearby TS, Local Weather).’’’ Percent difference in the number of cancellations and cancellations occurring in specified weather conditions between two time periods.
- Percent Change (Scheduled Departures/Arrivals, Carrier, Weather, NAS, Security, Total). Percent difference in the number of cancellations, causes of cancellation, and scheduled operations between two time periods.
- Percent Dispatch Reliability. The percentage of scheduled departures that departed as scheduled without interruptions (delays or cancellations). Calculated as [1- (Departure Delays + Cancellations)/Total Actual Departures]*100.
- Percent Schedule Arrival Reliability. The percentage of scheduled arrivals that arrive as scheduled without interruption (delays, cancellations, turnabacks, or diversions). Calculated as [1 - (schedule interruptions divided by the number of Actual Arrivals)]*100.
- Percent Schedule Departure Reliability. The percentage of scheduled departures that departed as scheduled without interruption (delays, cancellations, turnabacks, or diversions. Calculated as [1 - (schedule interruptions divided by the number of Actual Departures)]*100. *Record Type. Filter options restricting results to either ASQP flights, ASPM flights, or delayed flights.
- Rejection Code. Code indicating why an ASQP record was rejected by ASPM.
- Scheduled Arrival Time. Arrival time (gate-in) according to the Schedule.
- Scheduled Block. The difference between Schedule Gate In and Scheduled Gate Out, in minutes.
- Scheduled Departure Time. Time of departure according to the schedule.
- Scheduled Departures. Number of departures listed in a published schedule. Most cargo carriers do not have a published schedule.
- Security Cause As The Only Factor (Flights, Percent). Number and percentage of flights that would have been on time if security were the only cause of delay. See Types of Delay.
- Tail Number. Aircraft identification number located on the tail of the aircraft (for most GA traffic) or carrier code plus flight number.
- Taxi In Time. The difference between Actual Wheels on Time and Actual Gate in Time, in minutes.
- Taxi Out Time. The difference between Actual Gate Out time and Actual Wheels Off time, in minutes.
- Total Cancellations. Total number of cancelled operations at selected airport.
- Total Delay Minutes. Total minutes of delay at selected airport.
- Total Delayed Flights. Total number of delayed flights at selected airport.
- Total Minutes Delayed. Total minutes of delay at selected airport.
- Total Operations Scheduled. Total number of operations at a selected airport according to Schedule.
- Weather at Scheduled Arrival Hour (Wind, Ceiling, Visibility, Nearby TS, Local Weather). Weather conditions at scheduled arrival hour. Table indicates wind speed in knots, ceiling in feet, visibility in statute miles, number of thunderstorms at nearby weather stations (within 50 miles), and local weather conditions. The source is NOAA, acquired daily.
- Weather at Scheduled Departure Hour (Wind, Ceiling, Visibility, Nearby TS, Local Weather). Weather conditions at scheduled departure hour. Table indicates wind speed in knots, ceiling in feet, visibility in statute miles, number of thunderstorms at nearby weather stations (within 50 miles), and local weather conditions. The source is NOAA, acquired daily.
- Wheels Off. The time an aircraft departs from the runway.
